Using the site

Fancy Last Names is free to use, for naming characters, choosing a pen name or anything else. You may use any name you find here; surnames themselves belong to no one.

Accuracy

We take every meaning from a cited source and link to it. Etymologies can still be uncertain or disputed, and sources can change. The site is provided as is, for information only, and is not genealogical or legal advice. If you are changing your legal name, check with the relevant authority.

Reusing our content

Our meaning lines and the etymology text on our pages are shared under CC BY-SA 4.0, as explained on Sources & credits. The site’s design, code and editorial selection are not covered by that licence.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version.
